Tales & Trails School Holiday Programme
By Dariann Fraser, Children’s & Youth Librarian
It’s raining, it’s pouring,
The Library is roaring,
New tales ahead and crafts to be shared,
Bring your friends to begin exploring!
The cold weather has hit Horowhenua, and with it come the July Winter Holidays! It's a shocking time of year—from feeling those cold snaps first thing in the morning to realising we're already halfway through the year! Speaking of which, how are your reading goals? Or your New Year's resolutions? Time really does fly!
But one thing you don’t have to worry about is what to do with your spare time! Keep warm and out of the cold by coming into one of our Horowhenua libraries and joining us for the Tales & Trails School Holiday Programme! Weekday crafts run in Levin and Foxton from 10.30 am, with crafts at Shannon Library every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2 pm.
Do you have children at home who are interested in animals? Jump into the library on Tuesday, 1 July, and learn all about hibernation and how it works with Erin Wilson. Or maybe your tamariki are more hands-on and like getting involved—then trek in on 8 July and join the Kotuku Sea Scouts for some fun games and activities. Then, make sure to pick out some interesting books and a copy of the children’s reading challenge.
The Winter Reading Challenge will run from Monday, 23 June, through to 4 August, with the finale taking place at the end of the month – which is a secret for now, shhh. But if you want to tick off an easy read, then look for our interactive bear hunt in the children’s library and follow the signs!
We can’t wait to see you in the library these holidays—come in, explore, and make some winter memories with us!
