Comics Plus is available in three collections: Children’s Library, Teen Library and Full Collection. 

Children’s library cards provide access to the Children’s and Teen collections. Adult library cards (16+) can access the Full Collection, which includes titles intended for mature readers.

As with all library resources, parents and caregivers are encouraged to guide younger readers in selecting the appropriate collection and material for their age and maturity.

Browse all sorts of titles such as bestsellers, classics, non-fiction, children’s books, and magazines in multiple languages using the Libby app or your web browser. 

Borrowed titles can be downloaded for offline reading or listening, and titles automatically return themselves when your loan ends.

Kobo eReaders (2018 or newer) support direct borrowing and automatic syncing. Many other e Readers (not Kindle) are also supported by borrowing through the OverDrive ePukaPuka website and transferring titles using Adobe Digital Editions.

Do I need to be a Libraries Horowhenua member to enjoy this eLibrary?

Yes. You’ll need a current Libraries Horowhenua membership or eMembership to access our eLibrary. 

If your card is blocked due to reaching the fine cap, you will need to lower that before being able to use our eLibrary.

If your card is expired, you will need to renew it before using our eLibrary. You can do this by either ringing us on 06 368 1953 or popping into one of our library facilities.

Is the eLibrary free?

Yes! All our eLibrary services are free to use with your Libraries Horowhenua membership.

What do I need to get started?

  • A Libraries Horowhenua membership or eMembership
  • Your library password or PIN
  • A compatible device
  • An internet connection to borrow or stream content. Many items can then be downloaded for offline use

What is a compatible device?

Our eLibrary works with most current devices.

If you’re using an older device that no longer receives software updates, compatibility may be limited and some features or apps many not work as described or be available. 

Please note: Kindles and the Kindle app are not compatible with public library lending in New Zealand.

Forgot your library password? Reset it here. 

You can also ring us on 06 368 1953, email info@horowhenua.govt.nz or call into one of our library facilities to reset your password/PIN.

My eLibrary app is asking for my library PIN, but I don’t have one?

Some of our eLibrary platforms ask for your library pin – they mean your library pin or password. Your regular library password will work, even if it’s a word-based password. 

Can I use more than one eLibrary platform?

Absolutely! Your library membership gives you access to all our eLibrary platforms, so you can use whichever best suits your needs. 

Can I enjoy eLibrary content when I’m offline

Yes. Most content can be downloaded to your device for offline reading or listening. Streaming services such as Biblio+ require an internet connection. 

What happens when my loan is due?

Digital loans return automatically at the end of the borrowing period… no need to worry about overdues! 

Just like with our physical collection, you can renew items unless they are on reserve. 

Can I place holds on popular titles?

Yes, you can place holds in Libby, BorrowBox and cloudLibrary. 

You can use the ‘deep search’ and ‘notify me’ function in Libby to request titles that aren’t in the collection. 

Comics Plus, Biblio+ and PressReader have no holds or wait lists, content is available immediately.

Can I use the eLibrary while travelling or overseas?

Yes. As long as you’re a current member of Libraries Horowhenua, and have an internet connection, you can utilise the eLibrary anywhere you wish.

eMembership

eMembership is an option for Horowhenua residents who don't require a traditional membership. Becoming an eMember of Libraries Horowhenua will give you access to:

  • eBooks, eAudiobooks and magazines via our digital catalogues
  • Digital databases

eMembership is available to new members only. If you have an existing Libraries Horowhenua membership, you will be able to access our eLibrary only with your card number and password (pin).
