Turn Up The Volume For NZ Music Month!
Grayson Skerman, Events Coordinator.
Ah, music! That universal language that speaks to the soul. Nothing is quite as personal as one’s taste in music, and everyone has a preference—that special style that amps you up, calms you down, makes you feel seen, and speaks directly to your heart.
This May marked the 25th anniversary of NZ Music Month, a time when appreciation for homegrown music in Aotearoa is turned all the way up to eleven. Powered by the NZ Music Commission, the aim is to shine a spotlight on local music. Over twenty-five years, the concept has come a long way—hundreds of venues, thousands of artists, and millions of fans across the country have come together to celebrate the music they love.
Regular visitors to Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō will know that we love being a go-to venue for music, with a live lunchtime concert every Friday in our main space, plus special one-off performances sprinkled throughout the year—from local college students stepping on stage for the first time to seasoned artists showcasing their newest singles.
We’re supporting NZ Music Month by hosting part of the Levin Music Fest—a day-long musical festival organised by Kings Sound Centre, taking place across various locations around town. Paul and Ebz have been putting this event together for eleven years and it’s become one of the main highlights in the Levin calendar.
So, on Saturday the 31st, head into town and wander down Oxford Street to immerse yourself in a variety of Horowhenua talent – bring your bongos and join a drum circle, brave the karaoke stage, or head into Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō – from 10am to 4pm, your local library is proud to be bringing the sound!
